J- cole wet dreams -
The purpose of wet dreams is to promote both J cole himself as well as the song itself. Throughout the whole music video of wet dreamz by j-cole, his story about how he lost his virginity is told through the use of dogs playing the role of him and the girl, along side him singing along. The video starts off with a tracking shot of J-cole himself walking his dog ( which later symbolises himself ) to a dog care centre which is used to resemble the school in which J-cole and his lover went to as children. The dogs are also shown to be on leashes which could suggest the protection coming from both J-cole and his lovers parents. After this, we then get close ups of the dogs themselves as a sense of introduction to the role. Despite that, the video has quite high key lighting which could signify J coles happiness and excitement
Throughout the whole music video, the characters are all wearing casual clothing which can suggest a sense of normality in J cole. This can implies that the narrative on the story is based before his fame and uprising. This shows that neither genders are exploited or under represented but instead are being shown equally instead of sexual objects or aggressive. This factor also suggests that people were seen as ‘ normal ‘ and not seen for anything in particular eg sex. The mise en scene is also what would be apart of a persons essential everyday life.
In terms of editing, the music video contains a slow yet steady pace of a fading effect when going from the music video to close ups of the dogs to romanticise the moment and create a sense of ‘ POV ‘ so audiences can get a feel of how he was feeling in the moment. The music video seems to be targeted towards an older generation ranging from around 18 to mid 20s. This is because the song is explicit as he talks about sexual activity and his experiences with it yet still being upbeat; this may be appealing to this type of age range because of that.
